captain coffee

This personal project plays with many of the design levers I love and use often in my work. Custom, hand-drawn lettering creates a fluid logo that casts the brand's vibe from first look. I pair that with a solid all caps font that keeps the hand drawn, imperfect look of the main mark. The CAPTAIN illustration, messy and with an accidental flair, further shows the casual, playful attitude of Captain Coffee.

Not all endeavors need complex branding solutions. For a passion-project-popup that runs on the personalities of its founders, Captain Coffee captures the laid back vibe of San Diego.

I built out the illustration system to include a few more icons to play with for further uses. These illustrations borrow from the main CAPTAIN logomark, loose in style and simple representations.

I love the look of a coffee cup with a stamped-on logo.  So why fix what ain't broken, right? Or why overcomplicate a simple coffee window with custom-printed to-go cups? Paring down to just the CAPTAIN stamp gives the cups a drawn-on feel and creates intrigue in onlookers as the cup is toted around town.
